Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship of Maryland
a snowflake, sun, wrench, and a thermometer

Students in the HVAC program acquire information and experience related to the latest climate control systems with hands-on training on central air, heat pumps, oil and gas furnaces, and most light commercial units being used today.  Students will complete one course of related instruction and a minimum of 450 hours of work-based training with an eligible employer.  The workplace component is a paid, mentored experience with a work-based learning plan and a formal agreement among the student, school, and employer.  Students are paid at least minimum wage, so they can “earn and learn.”

Students completing the program successfully are eligible for advanced placement in first year apprenticeship in the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local Union 486 Apprenticeship Program. They may also be eligible for testing opportunities for certifications and/or receive college credit at a postsecondary institution through an articulation agreement with CCBC to receive 30 free credit hours.
