WELCOME to English 9 with:
Ms. Carey Schuler
My name is Carey Schuler and this is my fifth year teaching English 9 at Woodlawn High School. I was born and raised in Baltimore and attended Baltimore County Public Schools K-12. I also coach volleyball at CCBC Essex. Additionally, I have just begun Graduate school to earn a Master of Science degree in Human Resource Development- Educational Leadership through Towson University.
I am very excited to work with you and your student during this school year. We focus heavily on reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills throughout this course and your student will be expected to continue practicing these skills at home. Novels and other texts to read will be coming home on a regular basis. Kindred (English 9 or To Kill a Mockingbid (GT) is our first novel and you should start seeing it before the second week of September!
We, at WHS, encourage all of our students to demonstrate our PRIDE Principles in and out of the classroom. PRIDE stands for:
Prepared- Students are in class and on time. They have their materials and are ready to learn!
Respect- Students respect each other, staff, themselves, and school property. They use appropriate language and follow directions.
Integrity- Students take responsibility for their actions. They do the right thing even when no one is watching.
Determination- Students never give up! They ask questions when they need help and attend coach class for further instruction. (My Coach Class is Tuesday from 2:10-3:10)
Engaged- Students are active participants in class. They work from bell to bell independently and collaboratively, they participate, and they keep all electronics away (unless being used for instruction).
Please never hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I can be reached through BCPS One, email at email@example.com, or by calling the school- 410-887-1309. Your student has been given a course syllabus to bring home to have signed. Please review this with them, particularly the grading policy, and return the signature page to me. There is additional contact information on the syllabus for other teachers that are in the classroom with us as well.
I look forward to hearing from you and working with you to help facilitate success for your student so that he/she may "Enter to Learn, and Leave to Achieve".
