Welcome to the Woodlawn High Book Club!

Enriching lives and building communities through literacy.

  • To encourage a love of reading for everyone,

  • To build an awareness of the importance of reading to our students and the Woodlawn community

  • To support engagement through activities such as regular reading and conversations about books

  • To foster a lifelong love of books and reading.

Book 1:

All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely

All Ameican BoysA 2016 Coretta Scott King Author Honor book, and recipient of the Walter Dean Myers Award for Outstanding Children’s Literature, All American Boys is also the 2016 One Maryland, One Book (OMOB) choice of the Maryland Humanities.
The Maryland Humanities created One Maryland One Book (OMOB) to bring together diverse people in communities across the state through the shared experience of reading the same book.

"When we read a great book, we can’t wait to share the experience and talk about it with others. That’s one of the joys of reading."

The Woodlawn High School book club invites all of our Woodlawn family - students, teachers, staff, and parents -  to participate in book-centered discussions with each other throughout the entire school year.

Stop by the library to pick up your free copy of All American Boys!  As you read the book, begin having conversations about it.  When you finish the book, you may return it to the library or pass it along to your friends or family. Give it to your neighbor, your doctor, the grocery store clerk - just keep the conversation going!
